چکیده

In this paper we provide algorithms faster thanO(2) for several NP-complete dominationtype problems. More precisely, we provide: • an algorithm for CAPACITATED DOMINATING SET that solves it in O(1.89), • a branch-and-reducealgorithm solving LARGEST IRREDUNDANT SET inO(1.9657) time, • and a simple iterative-DFS algorithm for SMALLEST INCLUSION-MAXIMAL IRREDUNDANT SET that solves it in O(1.999956n) time. We also provide an exponential approximation scheme for CAPACITATED DOMINATING SET. All algorithms require polynomial space. Despite the fact that the discussed problems are quite similar to the DOMINATING SET problem, we are not aware of any published algorithms solving these problems faster than the obvious O(2) solution prior to this paper.

Directed domination in oriented hypergraphs

ErdH{o}s [On Sch"utte problem, Math. Gaz. 47 (1963)] proved that every tournament on $n$ vertices has a directed dominating set of at most $log (n+1)$ vertices, where $log$ is the logarithm to base $2$. He also showed that there is a tournament on $n$ vertices with no directed domination set of cardinality less than $log n - 2 log log n + 1$. This notion of directed domination number has been g...

The Parameterized Complexity of Domination-Type Problems and Application to Linear Codes

We study the parameterized complexity of domination-type problems. (σ, ρ)-domination is a general and unifying framework introduced by Telle: a set D of vertices of a graph G is (σ, ρ)dominating if for any v ∈ D, |N(v) ∩ D| ∈ σ and for any v / ∈ D, |N(v) ∩ D| ∈ ρ. We mainly show that for any σ and ρ the problem of (σ, ρ)-domination is W[2] when parameterized by the size of the dominating set. T...

Efficient Algorithms for the Domination Problems on Interval and Circular-Arc Graphs

This paper first presents a unified approach to design efficient algorithms for the weighted domination problem and its three variants, i.e., the weighted independent, connected, and total domination problems, on interval graphs. Given an interval model with endpoints sorted, these algorithms run in time O(n) or O(n log logn) where n is the number of vertices. The results are then extended to s...

A Unified Approach for Domination Problems on Different Network Topologies

We provide tight hardness results and approxiamation algorithms for many existing domination problems. We start with the positive influence dominating set (PIDS) problem, originated from the context of influence propagation in social networks. The PIDS problem seeks for a minimal set of nodes P such that all other nodes in the network have at least a fraction ρ > 0 of their neighbors in P; in t...

Weak signed Roman k-domination in graphs

Let $kge 1$ be an integer, and let $G$ be a finite and simple graph with vertex set $V(G)$.A weak signed Roman $k$-dominating function (WSRkDF) on a graph $G$ is a function$f:V(G)rightarrow{-1,1,2}$ satisfying the conditions that $sum_{xin N[v]}f(x)ge k$ for eachvertex $vin V(G)$, where $N[v]$ is the closed neighborhood of $v$. The weight of a WSRkDF $f$ is$w(f)=sum_{vin V(G)}f(v)$. The weak si...
